Naomi Mottram Translation

French and Russian to English translation, proofreading and editing

Translation

As a freelance translator working independently, I have the freedom to be able to take on any work that fits into my capability, no matter how small or large the project is. I translate written texts from French or Russian into smooth, clear, fluent English.

If you approach me to procure a translation I will first check through a sample of your document to ensure that I will be able to produce a good translation of it. If so,  I will quote a price and we will agree a deadline. From then I can get to work. When translating a piece of text, there is much more to do than just look up words in the dictionary.

  • I will be researching the content of the text, the terms that appear, checking out geographical locations to ensure that addresses or organisation titles are rendered correctly.
  • I will build a glossary so that in future contracts, you will receive consistent translations from me, using the same terminology or phrasing.
  • I will format your document so that the presentation matches as closely as possible the document you provided me.
  • If you have specific instructions or style guides that you want me to use I will be referencing them regularly to make sure that your expectations are met.
  • I will come to you with any questions that I need to clarify about the text, and you are welcome to ask me questions or to request revisions.

Translation is the activity that brings me joy and provides the ‘flow state’ to me, so if you have any projects that I can help you with, please feel free to drop me a line – you’d be giving me joy!
